Hunting Adeline by H.D. Carlton

4.0

um... I have a lot to say.

First and foremost, Zade was a much more likable character in this book than the previous one (if you want, you can read my review which highlights all the problems with that book). He finally started listening & respecting Adeline's wishes regarding intimacy (except in a few scenes).

This book made me want to throw up MULTIPLE times. Most times, I had to physically disconnect myself from my reading space just because this book was so hard to get through. Don't get me wrong, it's not because of the writing. The content is super-triggering, covering topics such as human trafficking, rape, murder, kidnapping, child abuse, and whatnot. For the full list, I recommend you read the content warning list. The first book honestly seems like child's play compared to the details of this one.

The competition, the brutality, the rape, it was as if you were experiencing the content firsthand along with Addie. I had such incredible sympathy for her. She was so brave considering her situation and the fact that she maintained her courage even after all the horrible things those people did to her is so commendable.

Now, let's get to Zade. I know many people worship him as a god on bookstagram just because he has a big dick? I don't understand this. I know that he had good motives which shows through his company which saves children from trafficking. To me, he is just a hypocrite. He says he saves people from being raped, but goes and does the same to the girl he likes? I don't know how people can call this love. And I know people will defend the book or Zade being like "Oh, this is a dark romance. If you don't like it, then leave it." or "Addie orgasmed, which means she liked it." That's literally not how sex works. This is a physical reaction, not a mental or emotional one. She can't control it no matter how hard she tries. In this book, she also orgasmed when Xavier used to rape her. Does that mean that she likes being raped? ABSOLUTELY NOT! Zade improved in this book and tried helping Addie, I know that. But that one scene where Addie said horrible stuff to him and then he ran off, and then he asked for sex as a way to be forgiven? He already knows her trauma and her discomfort with intimacy and then he again tries to have sex with her just because she made him mad? Ugh. However, I still respect Zade for saving Adeline (though Adeline's efforts paved the way for that) and for helping find her rapist and killing him. He was a good boyfriend, but not in the respect department.

Thank you for listening to my rant, and I'd appreciate it if other people shared their views on my take in the replies :)
