The Traitor's Kiss by Erin Beaty

Ugh. I wanted to like this audiobook so much but in the end it just didn't really do it for me. The reader was pretty good, though I thought her voice for Ash made him sound very young and kind of unintelligent, so that was frustrating.

As far as the book goes...*sigh*

I found the storyline to be a little overdone and kind of boring. My mind definitely drifted off a few times. But what I really didn't like was the way that women were portrayed/commented on. I hate this idea that basically every woman is a silly, ridiculous, brainless thing, except our main character, of course, because she is "different". So she continuously talks bad about, and gives the cold shoulder to all the other girls. And she isn't the only one that talks about them in a condescending way. I could go on, but i think you get the point.

She was also supposed to be super smart, but I honestly didn't see that. The brilliant ideas that she came up with were so basic that it just made everyone else look stupid for not coming up with them.

I did enjoy the interactions between the love interests. I thought those scenes were well done. I didn't always like the way the guy spoke to Sage, but that's not surprising considering how women were treated throughout the book.

If you enjoyed Kiss of Deception, and can get past the issues here, you may like this one as well. If you tend to like more in depth fantasies with rich world building and more complex storylines, you may want to pass on this one.

(I read some reviews from people who had some problems regarding perceived racism in the book. I'll be honest, I'm terrible at paying attention to what people look like in books, so I can't speak to that, (like I have no idea what the ethnicities of any of the characters are) but you may want to read those reviews as well.)
