This was a retelling of the vampire classic Carmilla. I’ve also read Beneath The Loch and S.D. Simper is really good at taking classic literature, and lore and writing weird and dark fiction. Carmilla is one of my favorite stories so I wanted to see how the author would tell it in their own way while still telling the same story. I think she succeeds because it’s really similar while also being its own story.
