hmartia 's review for:
A Very English Scandal
by John Preston
So, what did we learn?
We learnt a lot about people, - specifically, politicians - as they lie their way out of friendships and the public’s trust to hide a crime that they were ultimately guilty for.
It’s also a story about how the justice system unfairly biased the jury against a persecutor. It’s about finding money in peculiar ways, toeing the line between bankruptcy and prosperity. And it’s all a true story, which is the most impossible thing and yet, every event is factual.
The book is ‘deeply researched’ yet does read like a fiction book, which creates an immersive perspective of history.
Therefore, I commend the author for piecing together history’s complicated threads.
