Silas Marner
by George Eliot
Silas Marner is the poignant tale of a weaver who, after being falsely accused of a crime, loses his faith in humanity. He turns to the hoarding of money, only to lose it, but find something much more precious.
After adopting a presumably orphaned child, he finds his way back into society with the help of kindly neighbors and the love of this same child.
This may seem a very simplistic story today, but I found that simplicity refreshing. It's a short read and such a heartwarming story. Give it a try.
