The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

4.0

Amazing story but not a quick read. The Book Thief is based in Nazi Germany but from the other side, the Germans who lived under Hitler's command. The story is told by Death, which was strange to me at first but I think it gives the book an added element; Death doesn't have human emotions and his point of view is unique. We learn about the millions of soldiers deaths not by a gruesome battle scene but by how many souls Death brings up. I really enjoyed the book and while it was sad, it was also realistic. Germany durning the 40's was not a place where rainbows and unicorns and happy fairy tales ran about, it was a place of anger, hunger, war and death.
