This book got me back on a reading habit and that alone deserves all the star ratings. But, really, this was very entertaining and I highly enjoyed it. This might be my new favorite of Ali Hazelwood’s books and it’s one of her best works in my opinion.

First, I loved Misery. She was fun and endearing as the lead. I liked how she was grumpy and cold (literally too, you know, as a vampyre) but still humorous. It made for a more subtle style of humor and less than something written to make her quirky like Ali’s previous characters. What I liked most was that her first connection was with Lowe’s kid sibling, Ana. It was cute! Along with her family troubles, loneliness, and solitude, her connection with Ana and Lowe’s pack tugged at my “found family” heartstrings. Admittedly, not much and I wish there was more of it but enough that I ate this book up.

Next, Ali’s usual tropes for the male lead (large, hulking size alpha male) were less glaring in this one. Somehow, it works and makes sense with the fantasy element. The romance was cute though I honestly don’t feel their chemistry much.

Lastly, I liked that this book was a mix of many things. There was a bit of mystery. Urban fantasy. Family things. A cute romance that got me smiling like a fool a few times. Ali even got her signature woman in STEM and I love it! It checked all of my boxes. They were written well which made for an interesting, entertaining story. I enjoyed it so much.

I’m excited for what’s to come next, especially with how the epilogue ended. 💘
