I finished listening to the audiobook in one sitting. Until the ending, I had no idea where the story was heading to, but I was still enjoying the ride.
On the surface, this story is about two chess geniuses competing against each other, however, chess is not really the point. Actually, chess could be replaced by any other game or sport. It's about human resilience and obsession.
The peak of the entire story is the backstory of Dr. B, explaining how he became a master of chess while not having played a single match in 20 years. It's tragic and shows how people can endure a lot through the power of their mind, however, the mind can also become a prison through obsession.
I think everyone should read this book. It does stick with you and makes you think about all the possible layers underneat a simple game of chess.
