The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson
5.0
"It had taken a trap set by the Lord Ruler himself to capture Kelsier. Now... the Final Empire itself would shake before he was finished with it."
Oh my gawd, I honestly did not know what I was getting myself into. There weren't a lot of conversation about Brandon Sanderson books in a Facebook group I was in but when there is one, all his fans come out and only speak of high praises about his books. I got really interested and had planned to buy a boxed set for the next month but a better deal came along.
So what is this book about? In a nutshell, it's basically about a rebellion lead by Mistings (a person who could control one metal) and Mistborns (a person who could control ALL metals) against the oppressive immmortal Lord Ruler.
✨ PACING: I have to admit, this book was a tad bit slow, but I do appreacite learning about the metals and how to use them. It was really immersive. Overall, the pacing was equally divided throughout the book and there were points that I was just like...

But it's mainly on the climax points.
✨ WRITING: On the beginning of the book there were a lot of redundant words and phrases. It could have been edited better. I've already seen this word on the page before, get a thesaurus. This happened only a handful of times though.
There were A LOT of fight scenes in this book that make me just go

I think 15-20% of the book was made of it. HAHAHA. Or it seems like it.
There was also A LOT of planning talk here. It was very wordy.
The book was THICK. Okay? It is 643 pages. It was really intimidating. I haven't read a 600-paged book ever since Chain of Gold. Lord Ruler knows I would not have survived The Final Empire's lenght if I hadn't been invested in it.
I am not a plan of planning and fight scenes. But BS was a great writer that I did not quit reading and looked forward to every page.
✨ THE ROMANCE: I was feeling a little down when I read that there would be no romance sub-genre. But then... Elend came and I was like

I am so over stupid YA love stories but I just have to admit that I cannot really survive a fantasy book without a little romance on the side.
Can we talk about Elend? I mean... he got me on that handkerchief moment. I DIED. He was passionate about what he wants to happen and he was NOT STUPID. Another thing, he's a reader. What is there not to like? I just have to say I am looking forward with these two on the other books.

✨PLOT:
World building is great! We started off with the skaa then worked our way to the inside of the courtrooms. This was a carefully built world with its own histories and creatures, cultures, and even types of politicians.
I am all for this overthrowing the government and it gave me so much feels! I even got so emotional when (MAJOR SPOILER DONT CLICK)
Spoiler
Kelsier died. I was on the verge of tears!!! I keep on thinking that he was not really dead and that he would show up alive and well in the next chapters. But...About 3/4 of this book it was a solid 4 stars for me. BUT THEN THE PLOT GOT THICKER AND THE TWIST LEFT ME SCREAMING and turned it to a SOLID 5!!! I really thought the rest of the series would be just about ending the reign of the Lord Ruler... I guess we'll just have to see.

✨CHARACTERS: I could never be more thankful enough that even though Vin was young... she was NOT STUPID. She did not make rash decisions and although yeah she was pretty reckless tailing Kelsier at times, my irritation level did not reach as much as it did with Lila Bard from ADSOM. Maybe because when she gets in trouble, she would actually get herself out of it.
The villains were also great and deserved their titles. They did not go easy with the people and made the characters grow.
As for the rest of the gang: They each had their own personalities that it was not really hard to keep up on who is who in the first chapters.
✨FINAL THOUGHTS: I still have about a gazillion questions in my mind and I immediately grabbed the second book. This is a real page-turner. It is a world that you could get lost in. Well-crafted.
I am taking the investment and dedicate a whole shelf for Brandon Sanderson books. I am hungry for more.
