I wasn't going to read these novellas in my challenge because I typically don't enjoy novellas but I'm glad I read this one. In the book, we deal with an old case of Eve's before the start of the series. A person Eve put away broke out of jail and is after the people involved in his case three years ago. Giving the other people a protective detail, Eve hopes that will force the murderer to come after her, effectively using herself as bait. Roarke is not too happy about that so he puts himself to use as her protective detail and her aid while Peabody recovers from the happenings of the last book. Unfortunately, her plan doesn't work and Mira is taken. I like this book because it forces Eve to realize that the relationship she has with Mira isn't just work related nor medical between a therapist and patient. They care for each other and Eve's world of people she loves, and who she deems as weaknesses, is widening. But as Mira told her in the last book, Eve deserves a normal, safe, and happy life full of people she loves and she shouldn't let her job and murderers and the traumas of her past get in the way of her happiness and future.
