The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson
4.0

I've read criticism levied against other fantasy books that, for some reason, this book escapes even though it suffers from the same tropes/shortcomings of its peers.

It is generic, at some points, like the others - Young street rat who hates dresses eww and longs to be by herself because no one can betray her like that grrr!!!

Despite this, I found the story, plot and worldbuilding deeply engaging even though I found myself rolling my eyes occasionally.

It always surprises me when I see books in the fantasy genre be rated so highly. An average rating of 4.49 for this book lead me to believe that this book had no flaws, no issues, nothing to pick at. But I think what I've learned is that sometimes, ratings are vibe based. This book thoroughly deserves its 4.49 rating on vibes alone and how I felt whilst reading it.

Who cares about judging it critically when you find such enjoyment in it?
