The Twenty-One Balloons by William Pène du Bois

3.0

Yet another one of the books that I myself did not read but was read TO me by my 5th grade teacher. I don't really remember much about this book. I think it's about this guy who goes to this island called Crakotia( excuse my spelling) using 21 balloons or something. He finds on that island( its all coming back now) a whole little society of people. And then there's big volcano eruption and it destroys the whole island. In case you didn't know the island was real as was the volcanic eruption. The island also really is covered by the ocean like in the book. I think in the end the man goes back home or something. Really, it was an interesting read. The only negative thing I have to say about thing I have to say about this book is that I remember the man in the book referred to a black person as "colored" or "negro" one of those. I mean I know that at the time this book was written that was the "proper" term but I mean, couldn't they consider editing that out since it IS a children's book.
