This was fascinating and I definitely enjoyed it, but it spends SO much time talking about Mademoiselle and it’s GEs. I understand it’s a huge part of the history, but there are so many other aspects of this hotel that go untouched because Bren dedicates pages upon pages to Sylvia Plath and The Bell Jar. (I do, however, now desperately want to reread The Bell Jar with this new perspective on its setting.)
It’s like somewhere in the middle she forgot she was writing about the hotel, not the magazine, but eventually comes back to it towards the end. I want to know about these cranky old ladies called The Women, who moved in soon after the hotel’s opening, stayed for decades, and refused to leave!!!!
