⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
“Forget Me Not” by Ellie Terry was a sweet YA / Middle Grade read. It was a quick narrative following a young girl, Calliope June, who has Tourette syndrome. She attempts to keep it hidden, but that actually makes things harder for her. Besides this major factor in her life, her mother struggles with relationships, often moving every time another one fails. I wished the book focused more on this complicated issue and her mother’s mishandling of Calliope’s TS.
When they move again, Calliope meets a new friend next door, also the school president, and there’s potential to adjusting in this new place after all. Yet, the story follows the hardships of being different in middle school and the pressure of going with the crowd.
I enjoyed the simple premise and the character dynamics, even if only gradual. I think the story could have been expanded to include more backstory, and build upon the complexities more so. However, this is still a great story for everyone, especially students learning about tolerance, disabilities, and kindness.
Happy reading! 📚
