Once I got past the unusual narrative style, I got caught up in the story of the decline of the Southern Compson family. However, I'm glad I read the book as part of a English Lit class because it is a very difficult read if you don't have some guidance. In addition to class discussions, The Sound and the Fury reading guide created by the University of the Mississippi was very helpful. The guide provides useful hints to help you decipher the more complicated sections of the novel.
