Follow My Lead by Louisa Masters

This is the second book in the Joy Universe series. I read book one and thoroughly enjoyed it and this book lives up to the standards set by the first. I am really looking forward to more books in this franchise.

Dimi and Jason are the MCs in this book. We met Dimi in book one as Derek’s assistant. He has now been promoted and is the producer of the new Joy Village Theatre Company. Jason is the big shot director from NY. A famous Broadway director and Tony winner who has just gotten out of a bad relationship and is looking for changes in his life. Things do not start out well as when they first meet Jason sticks his foot in his mouth big time.

The story arc moves well and there is good character development as the story progresses. There are some interesting dynamics thrown in to cause issues for the MCs and they are not the typical ones. Though towards the end we do get one of the typical ones and I kind of expected that to play out differently. I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I really enjoyed the book. Both MCs are likeable. The angst is low level. The writing is sharp and the story is clever. It was a quick, entertaining read. It’s clear what franchise readers are supposed to envision as Joy Universe and Joy Inc are discussed and I think that gives readers a frame of reference. I remember reading another review when the first book came out that implied the setting was unrealistic as no company has the kind of reach Joy Universe has! That is someone who is completely ignorant of today’s entertainment/media landscape! I found this book even more embedded in that realm as it discusses the overlap with the theme parks, theatre, movies etc.

I will most definitely read the next book when it comes out and I will be anxiously awaiting it.

*I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my objective review *
