Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare

5.0

MORE SHADOWHUNTERS!! I know a lot of people either have Harry Potter or Percy Jackson as their all time favorite series, probably the ultimate fandom they belong to, but for me, The Mortal Instruments is my favorite of all time. I love the Shadowhunter world so much that is why I’m extremely grateful to Cassandra Clare for feeding us Shadowhunter stories nonstop. I feel very happy that someone can really tell me what is happening to the characters I’ve grown to love. It’s like I’m getting older and these characters are growing and maturing together with me.

Just like in the books before it, Lady Midnight also have that betrayal aspect, and of course forbidden love, which I think is Clare’s expertise. I’m willing to bet that there is a war coming, because there is always war, Shadowhunters love danger. We also have teenagers who like breaking the Clave’s laws, a lot of them actually. Okay so pretty much everything is the same and familiar for us Shadowhunter fans, but that doesn’t mean I love it any less.

Emma Carstairs… Emma, Emma, Emma. I love her! Finally a bad ass female lead who doesn’t need saving (most of the time), unlike Clary and Tessa. She’s the girl version of Jace Herondale, tamed a little bit. Honestly there were so many characters to love in this book, plus a lot of romantic twists and turns going on.

What I love most though is the constant mention and some appearances of the previous characters. They were still the same characters I fell in love with, nothing changed in their personalities, trademark attitudes were still there. There were times however when I felt like mentioning them in some parts were irrelevant, but it’s okay, at least I’m updated with their lives.

Even if there is a sense of familiarity in this book, most of the turn of events surprised me. Only Cassandra Clare can make every chapter in every single book so interesting, well excluding the 4th book of TMI, that was boring.

Can’t wait for more Emma, Julian, Mark and Perfect Diego!!!
