Utopia Avenue
by David Mitchell
wow! this book took me a long time to read, and i really did feel every single page. it wasn't the easiest read. however, it pays off. it is clear that david mitchell loves utopia avenue dearly, and i only wish they were real so that i could listen to their music. it kind of felt like mitchell watched bohemian rhapsody and then decided to write this. i noticed a lot of references and similarities. i also really liked all of the cameos from real life rock icons!
the first 3/4 of the book were kind of slow, but once they arrived in america things began to pick up. the entire "knock knock" plot line was confusing and i didn't love it, but whatever. the 2nd to last chapter completely took me by surprise and was gut-wrenching. i don't think i'll recover. i read the majority of this during my california trip this summer so it'll hold a special place in my heart for that alone. overall, i really enjoyed this book and would recommend it!
