Katherine the Queen: The Remarkable Life of Katherine Parr
by Linda Porter
Very readable, interesting biography of Katherine Parr. I admit I had pictured her as a somewhat matronly "nurse" figure for Henry VIII who went nuts and married a blackguard after his death--glad to know she was much more complex than that. I had not realized the extent of her influence upon Mary, Edward and Elizabeth. There were a few issues of unclear writing, however, that keep me from giving it five stars---a few instances of missing, unclear or just plain wrong facts. Where was the editor? One paragraph claimed that the Princess Mary had already been living with her sister, Elizabeth's, household for three years at the time of the divorce between Catherine of Aragon and Henry. Um, how could that be possible? Elizabeth wasn't BORN yet then? Anyway. A respectable editing and fact-checking job could clear all that up quickly--too bad it wasn't done.
