I read Unwind when I was in middle school, and unfortunately a lot of the themes went over my head. On my reread, I caught a lot more of the darker themes in the book and can see the parallels to even today’s society, despite the series being written over a decade ago.
The story will tug on your heart strings, and is honestly good as a standalone book. I don’t feel like I HAVE to read the rest of the series to get closure, even though I definitely will be continuing the series.
Having POVs of multiple, diverse characters allows the reader to see the story & dystopian society from so many angles, and it always keeps it interesting. The way that the 3 main characters’ stories are interwoven is masterfully done without feeling forced.
Highly recommend!
