This book had some interesting things happen, but the plot is still very simple and convenient.

In this book, Kit finds out more about what she is and there are a lot of people having accidents around her.

I’m still liking the characters and most of their interactions, but since Kit’s guardians are supposed to be part of an elite spy group, I expected them to be more proactive about trying to find things out and investigating or at least thinking about things that might seem coincidental.

Things happen conveniently and so far, the plot doesn’t progress much in each book. Every book only adds tiny bits to the plot and then the book ends with a massive reveal/cliffhanger.

Some of the things that I don’t really like about the plot are:

• I don’t remember mages ever being mentioned and suddenly both Austin and Caleb are them, and it turns out that they always knew it. Also, it’s not explained at all what being a mage means or what is so special about Austin and Caleb.
• There are a lot of accidents happening everywhere Kit goes and it’s so obvious, but while they mention that it’s weird and they even suspect Jonathan, they don’t do anything about it. Kit still heals everyone immediately without thinking about the fact that it gives more test subjects to Jonathan, and they don’t do anything to try to find out if it is in fact Jonathan and why.
• On that note, Kit has only just started using her healing ability, but already she’s an expert and seems to be able to do anything.

Even though the accidents and healings were getting a bit repetitive, I liked how the magic manifested.
I like how Cole and Vali are shifters, Austin and Caleb are Mages, and Wes’ manifestation still seems to be an unknown, but it doesn’t seem like it’s going to be the same as the others. It’s interesting to see that they don’t all just turn into different kinds of shifters, so I want to find out more about their individual powers. Also, I’m curious what River’s manifestation is going to be, since it seems like his magic is strong already.

I’m probably going to continue with this series because I want to find out how some things turn out, but it’s probably not going to be a favourite.
