The Invocations
by Krystal Sutherland
dark
mysterious
tense
medium-paced
a veeeeery slow and dragged-out start and then it felt like the story ended when it was just starting. i struggled to discern the three main girls from each other well until the third half of the book, and couldn't for the life of me feel any chemistry between jude and emer for the author to push that romance on them. we could've done without it tbh honestly a very simple book, with the antagonists' motivation being very superficial and the whole world building black-and-white, the book doesn't really dwell into the depths and nuances but ig that's fine. we can't expect all books to have nuance. personally i didn't see the twist coming, so i was pleasantly surprised but i didn't care enough about jude to feel for her when she stood face to face with elijah. we also didn't spend much time with him to care enough about him as a character, so there's that too
