Contrary to the saying, I always judge my books by their covers. At least, I use the covers as a guide to help me chose which books to read, since there are so many books in the world and I could never read them all. So in this case, I am especially glad the book's cover was so enticing, because the contents lived up to that promise and more! Nordic Tales is enchantingly illustrated, and the collection of stories inside is very well curated. Unlike when I read the complete Grimms' fairytales, there are none of those utterly nonsensical headscratchers that are inevitably a part of any exhaustive folktale collection. These stories, and the magical pictures that accompany them, make this tome a true pleasure to read. I say that from the bottom of my heart, as I can't recall the last time I enjoyed reading anything so much. Like a favorite meal, complete with a perfectly paired drink and dessert, but in book form! I highly recommend it!
