A Woman Is No Man by Etaf Rum

5.0

everyone has been talking about this book for a reason. the hype is for a reason. etaf rum's 'a woman is no man' is as realistic as it can get. the story traces down the life of a palestinian woman and her troubled life. isra's life resonates with women who have struggled with their lives and also for those women who consider themselves lucky to be alive the next morning they wake up. as tragic as the premise could sound, it has it's own moments of hopefulness for the next generation of women who claw their way into freedom and things they deserve to be doing. for instance, just being happy.

i'd definitely do a re-read of this book sometime soon as it's really close to my heart for several personal reasons. i look forward to the writer's works in the future and we need more women writers like her to be around. to speak about the unspoken.
