Whipping Girl: A Transsexual Woman on Sexism and the Scapegoating of Femininity by Julia Serano

5.0

This was such a great, comprehensive collection of essays on the connections and distinctions between traditional sexism, oppositional sexism, misogyny, transmisogyny, how different takes on feminism have been more or less inclusive of exceptional gender expression, and how the disparagement and undervaluing of feminity is at the crux of so many of these issues. Cannot recommend enough, especially for cis allies looking to learn more about the trans experience from a transwoman's POV in order to recognize our own cis-sexual privilege and be a better ally.

Also, I listened to the audiobook which is read by the author (which I usually prefer for nonfic reads) and it hit harder (in a good way) being able to hear her passion come through - so if you're an audiobook reader I do recommend trying this one out in that format.
