Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman

5.0

Neil does it again! If you're going to read this I highly recommend the audio book, Neil Gaiman is the narrator and if that doesn't make you excited for this book I don't know what will. I'm not 100% familiar with the Norse Gods (except Thor, Loki, and Odin thank you Jack Kirby) but there is plenty of explanation provided when a new character is introduced and reiterated throughout the book to remind the reader who they are and there relation to the other characters in the particular myth. I enjoyed that it didn't read like a lecture, it was fun. You learn that the Norse Gods/Goddesses are mighty but not "all-mighty" they have flaws and issues and the people who worship them are not actually particular fond of them. The best way to sum up most, if not all of the myths presented in this book is "Loki this is your fault" (said multiple times by multiple gods/goddesses), and each time it was said it felt like an Easter Egg, like the phrase mentioned in every Star Wars movie "I have a bad feeling about this". I would highly recommend to anyone a fan of Neil Gaiman, even though this isn't like his typical works of fiction it still is written in his style. Also to fans of any sort of mythology (Greek, Egyptian, Native American, Mesopotamian, etc.), like Thor loves mead you will love this book.
