City of Bones
by Cassandra Clare
Pure YA (in a good way): the writing is simple (although she could have a bit more variety and creativity with the ”he said” “she said”, sometimes she repeated the exact same adverbs in two immediately following sentences), the teenagers act like teenagers (thank GOD), love their humour and sarcasm, and the plot and world-building are clear and easy to follow, without being too simple.
The world this is set in is just so interesting to me, I used to be obsessed when I was a preteen, it made me want to move to New York more than ever.
Despite ending on a cliff hanger there is still a clear “happy ending”.
