Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire

5.0

I chose it because the library had it, it's so short I would only need 2ish hours to listen to it all, and the narrator sounded good. But it turned out to be really delightful! A surprise treat! I haven't read a ton of fantasy (which is so broad a category it's useless), but the plot felt really fresh to me. At the same time I settled in like it was home, and that was a very nice experience.

I think it was tagged as YA, but it didn't really have the YA vibe that I've felt with other books as I've been exploring that category. Even though teenagers are the subject, I don't think an adult reading it would definitely be like, "oh yes this is a book for the teens."

I'll absolutely read the next in the series.
