The Guardian by Nicholas Sparks
1.0

It was a struggle to finish this book. I know I have read Nicholas Sparks before but it has been years. How is he so popular? This was written like a high schooler. I'm curious how many times the word intuitively was used. The "dumb country cop" was an insult to police. The internal monologues of almost everyone in the book was obnoxious and a desperate attempt to build on these one-dimensional characters. The only one even remotely likable in the story is the dog and ***SPOILER ALERT*** the dog dies in the end. Because of course he does, it's Nicholas Sparks, something has to be over the top sad. But even that wasn't because it was all so poorly written. I actively disliked this book and almost every aspect of it.
