The first book in the series had some interesting things to say about inclusivity and community/mob guilt, which led me to rate it highly despite the appalling ineptitude and disagreeableness of the lead. In this one, there were no redeeming factors, just an "investigator" who combines the personal warmth and likeability of Sherlock Holmes with the investigative competence of Inspector Clouseau. Clumsy, arrogant, stupid and utterly self-absorbed in her belief that she knows what she's doing despite two whole books' worth of evidence to the contrary, this was one I wished I'd never started
