Gentlemen and Players by Joanne Harris
3.0

I really like Joanne Harris' writing - the twists, turns, oddness and quirkiness have always sucked me in and this one was no different. I was hooked once I got used to the split narrative (only indicated by a change in the chess piece prefacing the chapter).
Unfortunately the twists and turns in this book were really obvious, predictable and not very cleverly carried out. I found them too clunky and too painful - almost like an M. Knight Shyamalan film - you expect them so you end up looking for them.
Still it was a good read; a page-turner but not her best.
