The Survivor Wants To Die At The End
by Adam Silvera
Thankful they had the spoiler warning in the beginning. Having the main topic of this story be suicide is rough. Not that I have any suicidal thoughts atm with how much I’ve come to accept myself and live as genuinely as possible. But growing up the way I did (neuro spicy and queer), having to hide in fear of bullying or worse… it’s definitely crossed my mind in the past so the story hits close to home. The exercise they did in the diner with writing your obituaries for yourself for you today and you when you’re 100 is one that I’ve done in the past for the adventure races I used to take part in. It’s hard to not bawl your eyes out when writing about your life and the life you want. If there’s one take away from this book, it’s that there is always a reason to live and that there is good in the world even when things seem at their worst. You are loved and if you feel alone, I hope someone reaches out and shows you otherwise.
