I started reading this book because of Pinterest. I was reading something else but it wasn’t grabbing me like I needed it to. A screenshot of this book had said it was a fast paced thriller and they weren’t lying. This book was twisty. I was shocked several times. I enjoyed the unique world of this book as it explored the life of a homeless woman who was pretty privileged before. I haven’t read a book involving a homeless character despite this one and I’d like to continue exploring the diversity of characters in books. Lee was a character I had to warm up to at first.
The scene where Hazel bumped into her near that pawn shop and Lee didn’t like the way she addressed her made me question her character. But it made sense later.
Eventually, she proved herself to be rightfully untrusting. Hazel also had me skeptical at first. But, they both grew as characters as well as they could. This book has a lot of triggers but it really was a ride. If you enjoy the show Good Girls and the book Girl On The Train, I feel like this book embodies the vibes of both. I really enjoyed the dual POVs as well. It worked really well to explain the story to keep the reader wondering how both characters managed their situations. Lee and Hazel are gray characters but in the best way. This isn’t my absolute favorite but I would recommend to anyone who loves thrillers, who loves plot twists and who wants to get out of a reading slump or avoid one.
