Furthermore by Tahereh Mafi

I was persuaded to read this, in part by the beautiful cover and secondly when it was nominated for the BooktubeSFF awards. And I'm very glad I did.

This was a wonderfully whimsical middle grade novel, clearly very inspired by Alice in Wonderland. Alice was a great character, and I think a very realistic portrayal of a young girl (amongst the magic of course!).

The one thing that did annoy me about the novel was the secondary character Oliver. He's been to Furthermore before, but refuses to tell Alice about what's going on leaving her in the dark for most of the novel.

Overall, this was a really fun read. I loved the different towns in Furthermore, each with it's own quirks and rules. While the Shatter Me series doesn't interest me, I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for more from Tahereh Mafi. I hope she comes out with more Middle Grade!
