Guilty Pleasures by Laurell K. Hamilton
1.0

Guilty Pleasures from the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series.
A series of books that I read many moons ago when I was a teen (then 14).
It is very lemony and cheeky and I remember my hormonal, angsty self loving the blend between saucy and fantasy. So much so that I read the books up until the tome 6.
Now, I need to stress that I read it in the translated French version, as opposed to the original American English one.

This year 2020 I decided to give it another go, in the name of nostalgia for my blushing teen self. It was cringe fest. This might be partly due to the ridiculous translation but the 'not like other woman' trope is so blatant I was shivering from the sheer cringeness. The main 'love interest', shall we say, is a slimy French man called Jean-Claude (as if...) that I imagine has that cliché accent I hear English people putting on all the time when they learn I am, in fact a frog.
I realise now that this was bang-on when Vampire Diaries was out and this felt like a saucier version of it.

Perhaps the original is better? In the mean time, the French version is well and truly DNFed.
