Yasmin the Friend by Saadia Faruqi

Realistic depiction of common playdate dilemma. :)

Yasmin is excited for her playdate with her two best friends - but then her high hopes come crashing down when none of the kids want to play the same thing. Ouch. (How well I remember that experience as a kid myself! And my own kid has also recently experienced the disappointing playdate where trying to play with friends turns out to be like herding cats.)

Luckily, as always, Yasmin is a resourceful protagonist! She works through her disappointment and frustration, and triumphantly figures out how to herd those cats get everyone happily playing the same thing! Her sweet parents validate her feelings, while giving her space to handle the situation herself. (Also Baba helps Yasmin provide snacks. Yes, A+ parenting, Baba! Snacks DO help playdates run more smoothly! As always, I am a big fan of how much this series shows Yasmin's father actively parenting.)
