Bourbon & Secrets
by Victoria Wilder
I enjoyed this more than the first one, but that’s not all that surprising given that I am a notorious sucker for single parent stories. How could I not love Lark and Lily? They were cute in the first book, but absolutely shined in this one. I love that the girls had so much personality to them. And their inclusion in the epilogue was just the sweetest.
That said, this book, much like the first one in the series, suffered from a pacing issue for me. The middle of the book really started to drag between Faye’s big event that the book was leading up to and the third act conflict where the book tries to tie up the actual case. Like, I’m not one to shy away from some good smut, but I was literally going through all of it asking myself, “Okay, that’s nice and all, but WHAT ABOUT THE INVESTIGATION?!”
I’m not actually sure how I feel about certain parts of the ending, but I am genuinely glad that Faye and Lincoln get to be each other’s family.
