What an extraordinary book! I've known Caroline Crampton as the host of the Shedunnit podcast and book club for years. But I had no idea about her personal history or her work as a historian. And she weaves together both artfully in this book. The combination memoir with research on the history of hypochondria never seems forced. On the contrary, both perspectives complement each other and make this a really compelling read.
