An engaging and beautifully written classic. The rating would have been much higher for Connie alone, since she was a wonderfully complicated character. But unfortunately I didn’t like Oliver, and his brooding melancholy came across as petulant and mocking to me. I did appreciate how surprisingly modern it felt, despite being written in the 1920s, and there were some delightful side characters.
