I really liked Scala. I loved getting to see a little beyond Purgatory, it was nice to get a peek at one of the other realms. I also liked the character progression. While I will say that I missed the spitfire, punch now ask questions later Myla, I could appreciate that with great power comes great responsibility. Now that she was The Great Scala she had a lot of responsibility and that can make a person want to make some more thought out decisions. I thought that was realistic, and I liked to see that Myla was just as capable with her forethought as she was with asskicking. I liked the more mature, chess like political/royal court games that were at play here, and seeing Myla excel at them after time. But not so much that she wasn't true to herself. I might have gave a congratulatory fist pump in the air when she gave the King a good tongue lashing.
I wish that this book was a little longer than it was. I was really hoping to see more of this fantastic world. I will say that I was slightly disappointed with the romance factor here. Bauer was so bold in Angelbound, for YA anyways, and I felt like she played it safe in Scala. I wanted a little of that passion that was so dominant in the first book. And where she pulled back in that aspect she jumped way ahead in the whole marriage talk. At least that's how I felt anyway.
This was still a great addition in the Angelbound series and I am really anxious and excited to see where it goes from here. I really do hope that the next book is a little longer than this one, and I would absolutely love seeing even more realms come into play.
