Sanctuary Bay by Laura J. Burns
5.0
I was kindly offered an ARC through Netgalley, by St Martins Press, in exchange for an honest review.
Whoa. Just whoa. I don't even know how im going to review this book, but here goes.
What an addictive and amazing story. Right from the start I was hooked. The prologue has Sarah's very vivid recollection of what happened to her parents when she was three. I felt what she was feeling and it was conveyed very well, and written so that it definitely felt it was the thought and memory of an infant.
Once we start from chapter one where Sarah is on her way to Sanctuary Bay Academy, I felt connected with her character. Throughout the book I felt the emotions she was feeling and I wanted to know the things she was curious about herself. Watching her friendships grow with the other people at her school and at different times wanting her to be with one of the two different guys, or to take a different friends side.
Her connection with her friends, especially a particular group once the story goes on, is very intriguing and interesting to watch unfold. What's real happening here and why does she feel like this sometimes?
As this story unfolds more and more mysteries pop up and reveal themselves. You think you're reading about one thing and then BAM, you're actually reading a totally different storyline than you thought. Twists and turns in every corner and mystery that just makes you determined to discover the truth.
I loved all of the characters in this book, particularly Sarah herself (of course) and Ethan and Dr Diaz. The writing style has you hooked right from the get go and makes you want to read through the whole book in one sitting (if only we didn't have to go to work, right?).
The epilogue ends where you can believe there will possibly be a sequel, in which case I cannot wait to read it. Sanctuary Bay, I don't think we've uncovered all your mysteries yet.
I would definitely recommend this book to others, I loved it.
