The Choice
by Nicholas Sparks
I originally rated this 4 stars but after thinking about it for a day I downgraded it to 3. I love Nicholas Sparks' books in general. They're like a comfy old sweater. You know what to expect, you feel cozy reading them, the characters are so predictable for the most part that they're like old friends and even though the books might not be flashy or even book-club-worthy they're always satisfying.

This book was interesting in the beginning, I enjoyed the banter and few surprises between Gabby and Travis and I was excited to see what was happening next. However- I thought her sleeping w him and them being so "in love" after a couple of days was a big much. I didn't think her bf was bad enough to deserve being cheated on and that kind of disappointed me. Then right when we're about to find out what's going to become of Travis and Gabby *poof* fast forward 11 years and she's in the hospital and for about 100 pages all we read about is how miserable he is in heart-wrenching detail. Right when it's as sad as it can get and her death seems imminent SURPRISE she wakes up and basically it's like nothing bad ever happened. I feel like the entire book is just 300 pages that only cover about a week's time. I was so happy that she didn't die at the end that I erroneously gave it 4 stars but now I'm realizing that I think the story could have used a few more pages or a different structure to flesh out some of the storyline details. I enjoyed the book, like always, but in the end I kinda feel like I was shorted and more could have been done.
