The White Album by Joan Didion
3.75

A quintessential California book. Been putting this one off after having it recommended to me for many years, because I never really connected with Joan Didion’s writing. Her takes are sometimes interesting, but always dripping with privilege. Some parts of this book worked for me and others did not. I enjoyed reading about “The Diamond Lane” drama, Georgia O’Keefe, the shopping mall, and there had to be other stand out essays I’m forgetting… The essay collection format really worked for me here. If I wasn’t connecting to a certain section I could quickly skim on through to the next one.
