I took time to savor each of the poems in this collection by the brilliant Victoria Adukwei Bulley. The demand and deserve your full attention. I think I have a new favorite poet, and I put this at the top of my list of favorite poetry books that I've ever read.
Honestly, I can say that there were times I had goosebumps reading her words. Storms, calm, celebratory, intimate, introspective, meditative, joyful, sorrowful, love, and especially community, ... these are just a few of the terms that came to mind while pouring over this book.
Please do yourselves a favor, and give this British poets American debut a read. I hope this is just the start of her presence in the states and that we are privileged to hear much much more for many years to come.
An added bonus for me in the book, were notes on several of the poems and a list for further reading. I love the experience of a book when you can become further immersed in the world of the voice behind the magic.
