In Pursuit of Eliza Cynster
by Stephanie Laurens
Quarantine listen #6 - the 2nd in the Cynster Sister trilogy - still charmed me with its story of the kidnapping of Eliza, the next Cynster sister by the mysterious highland lord and her rescue by her 'true hero', scholarly Jeremy who discovers within him resources and an ability to cope in adverse situations that are far from the dusty libraries he spends his time in. We also find out more about the 'laird' behind it all, discovering a man trying to save his clan and being forced to adhere to what amounts to little more than blackmail from another member of the laird's family.
As for the audio, once again read by Matthew Benhar and quite successful. I find his male voices and voices with highland accents work well. Here there are not a lot of characters, keeping the 'need' for different voices at a minimum.
I do find though that the reading of Eliza and Jeremy escaping across Scotland into Northumberland and safety sound just ho hum when read. But when I read them on the printed page, they are exciting, which just reaffirms my belief that much is missed when just 'listening' to a book.
