this book is one for those who like the hunger games and want to know the inner details. it’s almost like the theory behind it, if that makes sense.
as a result, the book drags A LOT. collins really puts in the effort to inform the reader of what is what, but this makes the pacing very stop start. i loved the initial 130 pages, then it dragged for 100, then it was great etc…
the moments of action were very well written and engaging. the meandering details of snow’s poverty were less so.
i feel as though snow only became a proper character after he was shipped off to district 12. before then, he seemed like someone who the story was ‘happening to’ rather than being an active participant in his life.
that being said, collins is a clever author. i appreciate her call backs. it is a chunky read so do pace
