I liked parts of this book but otherwise my main thought is the book is really long. The author had some interesting ideas but it did not feel cohesive. I wanted to like it but once the book introduced the hard magic system like halfway through I was so bored and the words they used to describe it were just embarrassing. This book felt like the author’s first foray into fantasy/urban fantasy and I think that he shouldn’t continue on this path. However, Ed’s section was really excellent and I kept hoping that the book would return to that level of storytelling.
