They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera

5.0

They Both Die At The End is an amazing book about the friendship of Mateo and Rufus. Both of them got a call coming from the Death Cast, telling them that they're going to die in 24 hours, and they should live that day to the fullest. Through an app called "Last Friend", that was made to the people that are going to die to make a last friend, they met, and started a friendship. They visit Mateo's dad in the hospital because he's in a coma, they go to Rufus' favorite diner, they go to the cemetery to visit Mateo's mom, and see someone digging Mateo's grave. Throughout the story, Rufus and Mateo are doing things they never did before, like ski-diving, and start to have feelings for each other. Rufus posts photos of him and Mateo on his Instagram, colored pictures, because before he met Mateo, all his photos were in black and white. At the end of the book, after they sang a song in a Karaoke, they promised each other to stay in Mateo's room until the next day, so they could beat the Death Cast and don't die. They both slept, but Mateo woke up and it still was the same day, so he went to the kitchen to make something for Rufus, and he started a fire, but only Rufus survived.
After that, Rufus went to see Mateo's dad to tell him he's son's dead, even though he's in a coma. When he gets out of the hospital, he crosses the road without looking to both sides, then he dies.
Both main characters died like the Death Cast said they would.
I really liked the book because I love realistic fiction books, and this book is about 2 guys that fall in love, breaking the taboos and the society's "expectation".
I'd recommend this book for people who like heartbreaking, drama books. I chose to read this book because the summary made me curious, and the cover is really beautiful.
I think it'd be an amazing idea if the author had made all this story, and then at the end, he said that all of that was Mateo's dream, and he wouldn't be dying that day and Rufus didn't exist, and his father'd be awake, back from the coma.
My favorite thing about the book, is that the Instagrams that are cited in the book actually exist and they're actually the characters' Instagram. That made me have a bigger connection with the book.
They Both Die At The End, from Adam Silvera, is the best book I've read.
