Dead Serious Case #3: Mr Bruce Reyes by Vawn Cassidy, Vawn Cassidy
5.0
Book safety, content warnings, and tropes & tags down below.
«I might as well lay my cards on the table.” Sam shrugs. “Yes, I see the dead.” “How?” I ask curiously. “Near death experience.” His tone is casual. “You?” “Choked to death on an ice cube,” I admit and when his brows rise, I shake my head and roll my eyes. “Don’t ask.”»
These books are just endlessly entertaining. I love the humor, the britishness of it all, the relationship between Danny and Tristan just gets sweeter and sweeter, and I have really enjoyed the mystery in each book. I like not knowing what’s going on or whodunnit, but without feeling like an absolute idiot for not knowing like I sometimes do if I read ‘high brow’ murder mysteries/crime books.
«Chan lets out a scream that can only be described as “Cheerleader Number Two Gets Murdered.”»
The last 40% had me absolutely captivated, and it was all playing like a fast-paced movie in my head. I loved getting Bruce’s story, and I even cried my eyes out at one point, which, in a book where I’ve laughed out loud several times, I think is really impressive. If you enjoy anything that resembles paranormal rom-coms, you should read this series. I don’t even like series with the same couple in every book, but I love this one.
«“Oh my god,” I mutter. “It’s like Drag Race meets The Lion King.” “I was thinking more The Lion Sleeps Tonight,” Sam chuckles as he eyes Chan’s costume. “Oh, Christ. Please tell me that’s not what you’re performing,” I beg. “I’ll be humming that earworm for days.”»
I have an alarming amount of highlighted quotes from this book, and I sadly can’t add them all.

«I’d never wish premature ejaculation on any man, but god I hope he’s a fast finisher. Some of us have an apocalypse to avert.»
«“Now, what did we say about scaring the mortals?” Chan sighs as she brushes a hand over his shoulder like she’s brushing non-existent lint off his pristine suit. Death gives a long-suffering moan. “I wasn’t scaring it. If I wanted to do that, I’d simply take my true form.” “Yes, darling, you’re very scary in your oversized bathrobe.” “It’s a death shroud,” he replies haughtily, looking quite insulted.»
«The “Batmobile” in this instance happens to be a slightly dented blue Honda Jazz. Admittedly, it’s a bit of a letdown—not exactly a 1967 Chevy Impala, is it?—but we work with what we’ve got.»
Now I wanna rewatch Supernatural.
