Bluecrowne: A Greenglass House Story by Kate Milford

3.0

A prequel to books Greenglass House and part of the Arcana and Boneshaker world. Lucy loves life on the seas, but her father has purchased a new home in Nagspeake for Lucy and her brother to live in while he goes off on nautical adventures as a privateer. Lucy finds a small boat to renovate to keep her mind off the hurt she feels, while her Chinese brother Liao, talented in created fireworks, meets a man who has things he can teach him, but has ulterior motives for approaching Liao. Characters from other books in this world, using a time-traveling/future-predicting device to find people and circumstances that will help them succeed at their nefarious plots.

I felt lost when I first began reading this book and as a result didn't feel immersed in the story until over halfway through it. Milford's writing is a beautiful as usual, though.

Middle school.
